Superior eye medications result from a combination of experience, leading-edge R&D, and an in-depth understanding of clinical needs worldwide. The achievement of these goals is evident throughout Santen's highly advanced manufacturing and production facilities.
Santen's Nara Research and Development Center
Constructed in April 1996, Nara Research and Development Center was specifically created to conduct research and development, leading to revolutionary new treatments for eye disease. The facility specializes in discovery research, improving the quality and speed of R&D, and strengthening the all-important link between research and clinical development. In November 2002 an additional 20,000 meters — 6 ground floors, including 1 below ground — were completed to further enhance the facilities ophthalmic research, rheumatic research, synthetic, and safety research abilities.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology for ophthalmic product development, including stability testing, radioisotope, analytical instrumentation and an electroretinography laboratory, the facility provides for an enhanced process of quality and production. Pharmacology and drug formulation studies, analysis, metabolic experiments and leading-edge ophthalmic research are all performed at this R&D center.
