Santen Incorporated, a wholly owned subsidiary of Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, first opened its doors in Napa, California in 1993. In preparation for the substantial growth of the company over the next decade, the company relocated its headquarters to Emeryville, California in July, 2011. The office is comprised of established, highly experienced healthcare professionals. On average, each member of the U.S. senior management team has 20 or more years of industry experience, with extensive knowledge and expertise based exclusively in the ophthalmic field.
The leading ophthalmic pharmaceutical company in Japan since 1890, Santen specializes in treatments for eye and rheumatic diseases, offering both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) products.
In early 2004, Santen entered into a partnership agreement with VISTAKON® Pharmaceuticals, LLC, granting VISTAKON the exclusive U.S. distribution rights to the established Santen ophthalmic products QUIXIN® (levofloxacin ophthalmic solution) 0.5%, BETIMOL® (timolol ophthalmic solution) 0.25% and 0.5%, ALAMAST® (pemirolast potassium ophthalmic solution) 0.1%. Santen's newest product IQUIX® (levofloxacin ophthalmic solution) 1.5%, gained FDA approval in March 2004 and is also distributed by VISTAKON. This synergistic arrangement enables Santen to move forward with a renewed emphasis on the discovery and development of exciting new products that will make a significant difference in eye care.
Santen is also actively pursuing technological alliances with a number of pharmaceutical companies and research institutes, and has investments in an intraocular lens company, Advance Vision Science (AVS) www.advancedvisionscience.com.
